Pharmaceutical manufacturers must write package inserts for medications in a way that is easy to understand, as required by the EU Commission.
SEO (search engine optimization): Page ranking on search engines is strongly influenced by comprehensibility, mainly by word and sentence length. Both are part of readability formulas. The more comprehensible a text is, the higher it appears in search results.
Publishers: Schoolbooks, scientific and other non-fiction literature in particular should be comprehensible. Publishers can identify whether and where texts can be improved to make them more comprehensible.
Website developers: Websites can be analyzed to expand their readership and generate more clicks.
Technical documentation: This must be written as comprehensibly as possible.
Universities and other academic users: Whether mass media content, fictional texts, or style analyses—these types of texts can be analyzed. The text size can be arbitrary: paragraphs, pages, or entire books.
This is where TextQuest/ReFo comes in: texts are analyzed using readability formulas. You specify the language, text genre, and target audience, and the appropriate readability formulas are selected. Support is available for:
Languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Flemish, African, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Czech, Slovak, Croatian, Slovenian, Swedish, Turkish
Text types: unspecified, technical, fiction, non-fiction, children's books, school books, political texts, medication package inserts
Recipients: unspecified, children up to 10 years old, young people aged 11 to 18, soldiers, foreign language learners
The results are given for the entire text and for each paragraph. Depending on the formulas, an index value, reading age, and/or school grade (US) are calculated. The results can be easily exported in CSV or JSON file format.
For further review of the text, long sentences and/or long words can be highlighted, and the built-in editor allows you to immediately change the text and restart the analysis.
The professional version also includes a vocabulary module that lists all words in various sorts, as well as collocations (word combinations) such as United Kingdom or European Union
